2009
Rated R
My Rating: 2 out of 5 snowflakes
Expectation: I expected a sort of a supernatural thriller. The previews are a bit vague. But, I’m led to believe that there is something out there, in the blizzards of Antarctica. Expectation: excitement
Date Watched: September 19, 2010
Review: Yeah, this movie is entertaining…if you’re bored. It was not what I expected. This is one of those movies that would have been a little better if someone told me what the big twist was. The special effects are nice. This movie certainly was gorier than I expected. This was a benefit to the movie. But, the movie tried to create strong character stories that lead nowhere. This was certainly not a benefit to the movie. ‘Whiteout’ kept me guessing until I got tired of guessing. There was a brief moment of satisfaction toward the end. But, the ending was awful anyway. I did not hate this movie, though. I just wish someone told me it was basically a cat-and-mouse cop thriller with lousy character development.
Who would I recommend this movie to? People who can respect the special effects of things like frostbite and frozen corpses and are willing to sit through a movie with moments of suspense scattered throughout the movie.
Would I watch this movie again? No. And I’ll likely forget about it soon enough. Kate Beckinsale was cute. But, not that cute in her huge jacket, big hats and goggles…and snow.
* This movie gets an Arbie Award for Most Boring Movie With Too Much Snow
